Hi Ron:

I bought my first Sure-Start over 20 years ago, and wouldn't have anything 
else.  If you think about it, a TA really only has two positions, as once 
the engine is at operating temp, the extension of the TA becomes 
fixed.  When starting the engine cold, if the Sure-Start setting is a 
little too rich, the engine will still start fine, just as if it was a 
manual choke with carbs.  While the TA is an elegant solution, those 
intermediate positions really aren't necessary.  I'm in Florida, and I pull 
the Sure-Start out fully to start a cold engine, and within just a few 
minutes push it fully in, when the temp gauge shows maybe 160 (maybe 3 
minutes/miles).
