Yup this is correct.

You can in fact use the 74 style 4 into 2 2 piece manifold on a later car,
but it requires fitting the early front exhaust section which will eliminate
the cat (ok for track use only, right :-) or you could probably weld a
universal cat into this pipe in place of the resonator.

It might also be possible to use the manifolds from a S4 spider and the
front section that goes with it which does have a cat, but I've never tried
this.

I was under the impression that you could substitute a two piece exaust
manifold from an older spider for the one piece manifold in my 87 spider,
without modifing or changing the downpipe, which is one piece with the cat.



I just called one of the usual alfa parts houses and I was told that I can't
do that.



what's the deal?
