[alfa] RE:164 QV Value in UK

"I've had enough of this; anyone suggest a typical UK sale value for a
1992 QV, with 150,000 miles (and FULL AR service history)... Less than
the cost of the repair work, I'd guess."

Simon

Firstly I'd say 'don't sell it...fix it', but if you do sell, I'd avoid e-bay
as prices there seem predatorially low. I'd advertise it through the owners
club magazine/website..and also through www.pipeandslippers.net (The
UKcloverleaf register)

There is now a fledgling 164 Register (for all 164s) run by Mike Buckler at
Rusper Garage on 01293 871 155. They might well list it as 'for sale' for
you.

There are still a few people looking for 164s, often people who have had one
previously and are looking for another. They will pay a fairer price for a car
in good condition in my opinion.

164s are disappearing quite fast. Paradoxically when journalists drive one
they wax lyrical..Quentin Wilson (ex- BBC Top Gear) recently wrote glowingly
about the car.

Assuming yours is sold in good working order and is in good condition then I
suppose an enthusiast might pay #1500, or even a bit more if it is very good.
Ebay sales seem to run no higher than #700, but to be fair I havn't seen a QV
for a bit.

As to the costs of the repair work being higher than the market value, maybe
so, but if that were the only criterion none of us would be driving Alfa
Romeos at all, and my 24V would have been long at the breakers yard. There
have been more than a few who have thrown in the Alfa towel, but an awful lot
come back as the alternatives are mostly pretty boring.

Incidentally, what is causing such a delay, there should be no problem in
getting head gaskets done in a reasonable time, or is your Alfa mechanic just
snowed under with work.? I do know that those who know what they are doing are
usually very busy.
