    Biba,

    Putting tweeters in the headrest has been done before, the only
production car I can think of that used that arrangement was the 1986-91
Mazda RX-7 Convertible.  It's "not recommended" both because of the wiring
hassle you have pointed out, and also because the goal of sound reproduction
is to re-create the soundstage and experience you get from a live concert.
    Having tweets in the headrest is analogous to going to a concert and
turning your back to the stage.  You don't want the high frequencies coming
from behind.  Many competition level sound systems (sound QUALITY
competitors, not sound QUANTITY) don't even use rear speakers for that very
reason.

    Good places for midrange and tweeters are the kick panels, and lower
door panels.  The more equal the path length from your head to the right and
left speakers, the more convincing the sound stage will be.  Installation in
the dash is acceptable, but often creates nasty sonic reflections from the
windshield.
