[alfa] 1983 GTV6 Transaxle Identification / Diagnostics

I recently acquired a 1983 GTV6 that had been laid up for 10 years with a "bad
clutch".... Once it was running I put it into gear, let out the clutch and got
some limited forward / backward motion and a rumbling noise from the transaxle
area....

Last night with the car on jackstands and transaxle in neutral...I turned one
of the wheels forward and after about 1/2 a rotation the other wheel also
started moving forward....moved the wheel backward....and the other wheel
moved backwards.... for some positions of one wheel though the other would
spin freely for a few rotations...then catch with a clunk and start spinning
the other... the speedo sensor is electric rather than mechanical.......the
speedo is in kilometers but looks original (doesn't look like a butchered
milano speedo).

Based on all the above I think I may have a limited slip transaxle with a bad
limited slip clutch pack.....

Has anyone else had a similar problem ?
did you fix the transaxle or replace it ?
what are used lsd transaxles going for ?
did 1983 Canadian GTV6's come with lsd transaxles ?

thanks,

James
