[alfa] VVT - worth keeping?

Hey gang -

So here's the situation - I'm planning on rebuilding a 2L for strong street/occasional track use. Nothing wild, not full race, etc. The starting point is a 2L from an 81 Spider. As such, it has the oil-pressure driven VVT on the intake cam and the practically untunable single-butterfly Spica.

What's the group opinion - should the VVT stay or should it go? The rest of the build will probably be 10:1 piston/liner set, Weber or Megasquirt EFI on euro intake, bigger valves and a mild port job on the head.

Furthermore, is there a way to tell if it's even working correctly should I decide to keep it? Thanks...
