[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V10 #156
I did something similar on my GTV-6, but it was Hellas for me. I too
read that the recommended procedure was to use a headlight relay. But I
got to thinking about it and the H-4 and H-1 bulbs in the Hellas are,
as far as I remember, the same wattage as the sealed units I replaced
them with, so I didn't put a relay in. After two years, no problems
with either turning the lights on or dimming them. If I'd gone with
higher output bulbs or HID bulbs relay's would be absolutely necessary,
but I'm a proponent of " a difference which makes no difference, is no
difference at all." And I think this is one of those situations. I
wouldn't be too upset if the switch DID go bad because then I'd know
for SURE that it needed one, and secondly, it would be the ideal excuse
to replace my column switch assembly and get back my self-cancelling
turn signals. They have never worked since I got the car. I have to
remember to switch them off after a turn. Not worth the expense to
put-in new stalk switches for that, but if the headlight switch
flaked-out on me.......
