Jason and Karl,

The filter I was thinking about is not a filter but the fuel vapor
separator - a box on the fuel line in the trunk behind the liner. I
looked at Jason's laundry list of things he had tried but did not see
any mention of it. The service manual implies that this needs periodic
attention as it gives a procedure for testing and removal/installation.
