[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V10 #167

I had this question once also, and it turns out that most of the L-Jet engines
actually never had a pointer, since it wasn't necessary. I'm guessing that
some of the engines over the years somehow acquired them, since they will
fit, but don't panic because you can't find yours....
I thought I had to be totally retarded if I couldn't find the stinkin' timing mark
pointer. I must have spent 2 hours looking from the top and bottom of the
engine.
Of course, I could actually be totally retarded, but that's not the point I'm trying
to make :)

Hi Guys:

I think you guys missed one very obvious point regarding Dennis' question
about timing his '86 Spider. It's an '86 Spider, and the ignition is fired
by crank sensors reading the flywheel. Thus, the ignition timing on an '86
Spider is not adjustable, nor is it on any of the Bosch L-Jet or Motronic
Spiders (at least with the stock ignition system).

And Dennis, I certainly give you extra credit for owning a Spider in
Anchorage, Alaska.
