The clutch arm pivot could have broken off.
It's a ball-headed stud that is screwed into the bell housing and the clutch arm moves out it via the action of the slave cylinder to operate the clutch.
Over time and use they fatigue and the ball end breaks off and the clutch gets "real hard" like you're pushing at a rock.
Get under the car and look at the clutch arm. If it doesn't appear to be sitting on a little ball and only sitting inside the bell housing then that's your problem.
Usually they break off and leave enough stud sticking out so that you can turn the remains out with channel locks. Then screw in the new onw and you're all set. One hour's time and a new clutch pivot (last time I bought one it was less than $20 U.S.).
