[alfa] Re: Loctite (NFI)
Alfa Milano / GTV-6 manual specifies LocTite Green #270 for flywheel
bolts and it is readily available at most automotive and industrial
supply stores. Green #290 (wicking grade) is for pre-assembled parts and
is usually much more difficult to find. Neither of these is
oil-tolerant! As I stated previously, for applications in an oil
environment, use only #243 (blue). I strongly recommend that you visit
your nearest authorized Loctite distributor (800-562-8483), pick-up and
read LocTite's free Technical Product bulletin #LT-2570 as an ounce of
prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Another LocTite product I've used for many years is #518 (red) aluminum
flange sealant. Works great on banjo fitting copper washers.

The two green Loctite products that I'm familiar with are the #290
wicking grade for already-assembled parts, and #601 Retaining
Compound, which I call circlip-in-a-bottle. And I'm not sure how
else to explain it. It's a compound that retains round stuff, hence
the name, I guess. I'm not familiar with #270, but my red #271
maximum strength threadlocker is intended for fasteners under 1" in
diameter, so it would make sense for #270 to be similarly strong, I
think. I'd be inclined to use #271 on flywheel bolts, but I don't
really know what I'm talking about.
