- Thread-topic: Alfetta Transaxle - Power Handling
Hi All
I obviously missed a few digest discussions about transaxles and someone
has remarked on sceptical comments about my claim that they are good for
far more power input than originally designed for. Fact: it can and did.
As I stated earlier, we did have a problem with the GTV 2000 transaxle,
but only in the input shaft department which deranged so that the clutch
cover exploded when the flywheel came loose. Once that whole section was
replaced with the beefier GTV6 setup, we had no more problems even when
we changed to the higher HP alloy Milodon V8.
Alfa transmissions of the 60's and 70's are among the best in the world,
at least as good as the Toyota 5-speed used by all the V8 modifiers, and
probably better than the Porsche transmission of that time: we debated
and went for Alfa.
I don't know why I'm wasting words and time posting this. There were a
whole bunch of people around saying "that car will never run" when we
first appeared at a national championship meeting with the car. Nothing
has changed ..... :-)
