[alfa] RE: remove the filler plug before the drain plug
I remove the filler plug first (or at least break it loose) just to make
sure it will indeed come off before I drain the old fluid. Drain & fill
plugs for the trans & diff are often left in place for years at a time &
sometimes become frozen to the case by corrosion. If you drain your diff or
trans & then can't remove the fill plug, you could be in a bad spot indeed.
For me, it happened on an old Nissan truck I used to own. I drained the
gearbox oil, & when I went to fill it, the fill plug would not come off.
Turns out that the P/O or his mechanic installed the fill plug with JB Weld.
He must've cross threaded it & used the JB Weld to keep it from leaking.
Luckily, I was able to fill the trans through the reverse light switch hole.
Otherwise, I would've had to try to fill it through the hole for the shifter
or something like that.
