[alfa] Spider pinging climbing hill

I never remember to quote the person asking the question, but someone asked about his Spider "Pinging" in 4th gear climbing a hill, even with 93 octane fuel.
You can check your timing, but it's not unusual to get pre ignition if your RPM is "below" a certain level and your throttle application is "above" a certain level. What are these levels? It will vary from car to car. Carbon build up in the combustion chamber or on the pistons and valves or even a dirty throttle body or intake tract. Dirty injectors, a weak fuel pump or dirty filter... Tons of things can cause it.
The easiest cure is to downshift and get the revs up. If you have pre ignition on a level road with full throttle application in 4th or 5th gear above 3000rpm, you might want to look for a problem, otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. IMHO
