It sounds like the clutch is worn and slipping.  You're not  resting your
left foot on the clutch pedal, are you?

When it  happens, you can try lifting your foot off the throttle.   However,
most likely you're going to have to have your clutch replaced  sometime soon.

    Hey, Brian!  It sounds to me as if he is just  smoking the tires with all 
the Alfa power!  Or maybe his street was wet or  icy that morning.
    OK, seriously, it sounds like the clutch.
