[alfa] gtv electrical festivity followup
one of the responders mentioned fuses, which reminded me that one
of the tech experts on a diesel benz list i know had advocated simply
replacing all the fuses on older cars with the traditional euro style fuse.
since some of the fuses in the car looked like they might well date
back to the factory, i bought two packages of the glass bus fuses
that are designed to replace the traditional euro fuse, and replaced
all except for the two that i knew i'd replaced last summer. i also
found an inline fuse holder with a 15A glass fuse hidden under
the dash (added by a previous owner no doubt). this fuse was
blown, so i replaced it as well.
i also found that some of the contacts in the fuse holder were only
loosely holding the fuses; i bent them so the fuses would be held
more tightly.
the result? the car's electrical system is back where it was last
summer. the remaining problems are old ones that i'll need to
address sooner or later (fast wiper setting same as slow setting,
heater blower motor is erratic on its good days, that sort of stuff.)
the main thing is that the turn signals, etc, now work as they're
supposed to.
