[alfa] Carbon fiber Spider hoods

Unfortunately, I haven't kept too many photos of my work, and photos don't
always show people what you can see in person. Anyway, I'll attach a few
photos of a polished stainless steel fender I repaired about a year ago for
Don Pappa's Norton motorcycle. First photo is as received, second is after
hammer and dolly, third is after buff and polish. You'll notice no filler
was used for the repair. ;-)
Also, check out the picture of the yellow race car at:

I did the front fenders by hand in steel using a rolled edge (like a wired
edge less the wire) for extra strength. (Luka Duganzic did the rear
fenders.) You can't see them, but I made the brake ducts from aluminum
(.040" 5052 IIRC) and I fiberglassed them to the carbon fiber nose. You
can't see the radiator ducts that were made by hammering aluminum sheet
against the edge of a table using a couple of C-clamps and a two by four,
or the aluminum alloy prop rod (indistinguishable from the factory supplied
steel part) that I made up with a bench vise and a hammer, or the support
struts I hammered from thin wall tube, etc., etc., but they all turned out
pretty nice. Some of the details may make it into print (I've forgotten if
it was Fast Fords or Hot Rod or whatever, but I think this one's going to
be a calender car.) Anyway, you probably won't notice much aside from the
model in the skimpy bikini, but if I find out, I'll pass the info along.
I should mention that for the metal work, I don't own a power hammer,
planishing hammer, wheeling machine, or for that matter, even a sheet metal
brake. All the work's been done with fairly rudimentary hand tools: scraps
of wood from broken up old pallets, ball pien hammers, vise grips, a
crescent wrench, some strong language....
Well, that runs the gamut....
