Re: [alfa] Giulia GTV Body Rottiserie
Sasha,
I have seen the bumper points utilised, however I believe using the
suspension pick-ups makes more sense. As these are the points supporting
the car at rest, any flexing will be the same as when the car is complete so
panel fit should be the same. Of course this won't mean much with the body
upside-down !
A body sans it's mechanical componentry isn't very heavy, so bumper points
are probably OK. I wouldn't do it this way on a roadster though. It may
also be wise to make a brace across the engine mounting points for extra
rigidity.
Make a flat frame on which to sit the floor and extend it clear of the ends
of the body. Weld on some 'uprights' so you can attach the pivots. You
want to pivot the car/frame assembly near to its centre of mass, not simply
in line with the frame. This will make the body a lot easier to rotate and
hold in position. Of course you will need to make the pivot high enough so
the car will clear the floor when on its side. I've also seen one clever
design which utilised a tall 4X4 'wallaby' ratchet-jack at either end so the
car could be lifted for rotation, then brought back down to a workable
height once inverted.
