[alfa] Spica backfire on decel
Paul -
A properly working and tuned SPICA car won't backfire. There's something
definately not right.
1. First check that the pump gap is .019" with the engine hot. Also check
that all throttle butterflies are "just" fully closed.
If the pump gap is wide, you might have a TA going bad which is causing an
overrich mixture and holding the throttle butterflies open slightly. That
can cause some burbling and backfiring. The comment about hold trailing
throttle is also very valid.
2. If the pump gap and butterflies are good, hook a test light up to the
Fuel Cutoff Solenoid. Rev the engine and fully release the throttle. The
light should come on, then extinguish at about 1300 rpm when fuel delivery
is restored to allow the engine to recover to idle. If it extinguished at
2300 rpm, then the microswitch lever may need adjustment. The switch should
be adjusted so that there's a .015" gap. Unfortuntely, it's virtually
impossible to adjust with the pump on the engine.
3. Check you spark plug color for overrich running mixture as well as your
ignition timing.
