Yup, they sure did. However, if Jobs and company hadn't, ummm, somewhat borrowed it, it never would have come to light - and Bill wouldn't have ever become a gazillionaire - and everyone would still be keyboarding in backslashes along with other obscure codes which only a relatively small handful of people (sometimes referred to as geeks) knew.
