Not to dispute Roy's info, as it may have been true at some point in the
recent past, but the XR3000 that I purchased from Crane about 3.5 years ago
doesn't have that problem. It's installed in the Bosch 041 JF4 disty on my
'74 Spider, which required the fabrication of a new breaker plate for
mounting the optical sensor, but that extra work isn't required on the
Bosch 044, 045, or any of the Marelli's. I've seen the ignition trace on a
Sun 'scope, and the timing is near-perfect on all 4 cylinders, from idle to
redline. Although the advance curve is quite different, the timing
accuracy is right on par with the stock crank-fired Bosch ignition on my
'87 Spider.
FWIW, the Pertronix system is certainly much easier to install, at least in
a Bosch disty, but I don't know a bit about it's compatibility with the
various spark boxes and coils on the market.

The Crane ignition does not fire a 4 cyl. 900 apart ( the shutter wheel is not
perfect ). After many complaints , they admitted there is a problem .Use a
Bosch distributor with a Pertronix unit - they are perfect !
