Those slave cylinders do have a habit of corroding into place. Try a good soak with PB Blaster, some gentle heating with a propane torch, and put a wrench on the flats so you can rotate the cylinder in the sleeve. All of those things, plus some hammering will usually result in success. Be careful with the hammer, if it's a steel one, as if you mushroom the end of the cylinder, it will stick in the sleeve. When you install the new one, clean the sleeve well with some sandpaper, and coat the new cylinder with Permatex Anti-Seize compound, just in case you have to repeat the task years from now. You might also consider replacing the flex hose, as they sometimes delaminate internally, blocking the passage of fluid, occasionally only in one direction.

I've never owned a V6, but if a Spider starter behaved as you've described, I'd clean the connections on the starter, solenoid, ground strap, and battery. Sometimes it's that simple.

I'm trying to remove a clutch slave from the bell housing mount on a 1976
Alfa Spider. I've removed the two snap rings, but the cylinder doesn't
budge with modest tapping with a hammer. Any other secrets--or a bigger hammer?

On my other Alfa, a 1988 Milano Verde--occasionally on key-turn to start I
get power (lights, fuel pump--rewired by PO to turn on with ignition, etc)
but no noise or action from the starter or solenoid. I replaced the
ignition switch--made no difference. Usually with some number of repeated
trys, I get juice to the starter and it goes fine. Is this symptomatic of
something in particular? The starter/solenoid is such a pain to get to I
don't want to go there unless I'm fairly confident that is the problem area.

Thanks for any advice on these issues.
