[alfa] Canister oil filter questions

Looking for some guidence,

The following link shows a picture of the oil filter that I removed next 
to the one that I replaced it with. I think that the replacement filter 
is correct. I am concerned because when posting this picture on the Alfa 
BB, I had gotten a response discussing the presence of a spring in the 
canister.
I did not recall seeing a spring in the bottom of the canister, although 
it makes sense that there would be one there.

Can anyone out there confirm that there should be a spring in this 
canister set-up. Is there more than one type of canister used on the 105 
 alfas?
By the way the car is a 65 Giulia Sprint GT
