I'm trying to remember back to the late 1980's... but after
building the 164 Procar with Alfa Romeo V10 engine, and
finding there was nobody to race against and series to run
it in, there was some talk about Alfa building a group c car
with that same V10 engine.

Just guessing here, but maybe this is the continuation of
that group c project, but at some stage switching to using
the Ferrari V12 engine, rather than Alfa continuing with
there own V10 design.
