Yes, I believe the emblems come with adhesive on them when new. My 164 was in the body shop 6 mo. ago. After the trunk lid had been painted, the shop owner gave me some double-sided 3M tape developed specifically for putting emblems back on cars. You use a wide strip, then remove the superfluous material with a special thinner. It seems like a smart solution. It has held up well so far. 

In the past, I have also seen silicone adhesive used, which also worked well.
