[alfa] no heat in milano

hi all,

i've been driving this decent milano around most of
the summer; now that fall is in the air, i need to
sort out its lack of heat.  if i prime the system by
squeezing the return hose from the heater core, i will
in fact get heat.  even after thirty minutes of idling
at ~2.2k rpms, (or at 850 rpms, take your pick), the
heat is still blasting away.  but as soon as i start
driving the car, within five minutes, the heat is
gone.  wazzup?  failing heater control walve?  clog
somewhere?  something else?
