[alfa] Re: FWD

One point not to forget about the Mini - they are very light, short, and will turn on the proverbial dime. While faster in a straight line, a heavy Jag is no match for a well-prepped Mini on a tight course. Not really an issue of FWD vs RWD, but weight. Fastest Minis yearly (Joe Huffaker, I believe) at the runoffs are now front mid-engined, tube framed cars. RWD is a definite advantage near the limit, and thus at the track. Colin Chapman of Lotus fame said it best: (paraphrasing ) to increaese speed, add lightness. His small mid engine Lotus 23 powered by a 1.6 L4, IIRC, could stay with and sometimes beat much faster Can Am and LeMans cars on a tight course. Good topics lately guys, even if not all strictly Alfa- related. So much knowledge on this list! Cheers, Ron. --
