[alfa] alfa-subaru connection

I was speaking with an acquaintance recently and he said that he had heard 
that Alfa has sourced certain AWD components from Subaru.  Can anyone verify 
this?  Also, he speculated that the relationship may go back further as 
Subaru's boxer engine design may have roots tracing back to the Alfasud.  
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

This is all just speculation, but interesting nonetheless.
