Re: [alfa] Too Hot, or....

Hi Robert:

If you've ever seen an owners manual from any of the earlier 105/115 Alfa's, there's usually a mention of two applicable plugs from Lodge (the OEM supplier). The HL was recommended for the more "leisurely" (my words, not Alfa's) driver, while the colder 2HL was recommended for the "sport" driver keeping the rpm's high for extended intervals. The moral of the story is to use what fits your needs best. Assuming correct ignition timing, carb tuning, etc., keep an eye on the color of your plugs. Black might indicate too cold, white too hot, but a dry, even, medium tan color is about ideal.

I always used the cooler 2HL Golden Lodge's in my 1750 GTV (many years ago), and still like the cooler BP7ES NGK in my '74 Spica Spider. The NGK's also seem to have a wider tolerance to variable driving conditions than some other brands. I can sit in traffic for a while, then hit an open road, and all is well. After trying a lot of different plugs, I won't bother with anything other than the NGK's in my '74, but prefer the single-electrode Bosch Platinum's in my '87 Bosch Spider. Don't be afraid to experiment, but I'll bet the NGK's will be fine, in either heat range.

Subject: [alfa] Too Hot, or....

Hi All, I replaced some bosch plug in my 67 gtv with NGK. The parts guy
gave me bp6es. I have been running the car for a week and it seems fine.
I check the ngk site and it say i should run bp7es, which is one grade
cooler. Should I switch to the cooler plugs or is running one grade
hotter for street use probably ok? Robert Watson69 spider67 GTVNovato CA
