[alfa] Stainless steel shims for brake pads
Mmm, that machineable ceramic sure looks tasty, but it's probably overkill for a backing plate/standoff. How about a home-brew composite setup? Sandwich and sinter some loose-weave carbon fiber with some lab-supply alumina powder. Trial and error on the shrinkage, but it's only a backing plate, right?
Or how about a sandwich of kapton/steel/kapton? upper working temps are around 275C, though.
Then there's always the option of using plain old air as an insulator. The more air pockets you've got, the worse your thermal conductivity. How about just a stainless mesh? Or a perforated version of the carbon-alumina setup?
