Biba and all,
From experience on a 4 cyl: pack the tap with grease and make sure the valve
heads are out of the way!!  That tap will eat the sides out of a valve!!
Someone mentioned putting the piston at TDC.  Probably be better to put it at
BDC otherwise the tap will eat the top of it, too.
But the safest bet:  Pull the head.

RE: Plug repair - pray tell, what do you feel happens to the "filings"
(yes, there is a better term) which don't come out with the tap? I for
one would prefer not to bet my engine they will ALL be blown out through
the exhaust - and of course aluminum just laughs (chortle, chortle) at
magnets.
