[alfa] Resurfacing headlamp reflectors (164 headlights)
Hi all,
on the euro spec 164 headlights with projector headlights (is that a vague
term or what?) there is a tendency for the reflective surface for the low beam
to burn off. I suspect this is from idiots putting in those 130W blue bulbs to
imitate HID headlights. I have a headlights that suffer from this on my Q4.
Short of replacing the headlights ($750 or so), I was thinking of having them
recoated. A friend of mine attempted this with his headlights and it did not
work. Not sure if they were rechromed or what, but they looked nice, but did
not reflect well. That headlights still looked very dim. Replacing the
reflector solved the problem (reclector from a known good headlight).
The reflector is metal, not plastic like most of the guts of the headlight and
the reflector for the high beams. I'm not sure what the factory does, but I
would assume some sort of metal deposition in a vacuum chamber (kinda like
semiconductor processes). Any ideas how to solve my problem?
thanks,
Karl
