[alfa] Biba commiting fraud...again...was...alfa-digest V10 #397
Thomas, while I didn't spell this out, but feel if one currently has a
Craftsman torque wrench and buys another similar to the other (yes, both
could be somewhat way off) and the owner uses it (carefully) on two nuts
and decides to return it, sorry but I wouldn't feel guilty in the least.
Most of my wrenches are Craftsman and while I don't have a fortune in
them, I'm a reasonably steady customer.
Often I've had sales clerks tell me if I'm not happy with either a tool
or shop vac, or (?) to simply bring it back for a full refund. Obviously
the only way I would not be happy with it is to actually try it out.
I've also had sales people remove items from blister packs to allow me
to get a better look at whatever I'm considering buying. This might well
seem as if I don't have have my priorities right in your eyes, but can't
ever remember tearing open a sealed product in the store on my own.
While a very minor thing a while back I lost my 11 mm socket so bought
another one. When I finally found the original one, it didn't occur to
me to return the somewhat (but now used) new one.
Funny how everyone here, except myself, talks about having one's torque
wrench calibrated. Perhaps I should have looked harder but in my more
than a few decades of working on cars have never run across a place
which advertises they calibrate torque wrenches. True, if I was a
defense contractor or aircraft mechanic, I gather they would find me. So
what does one look up in the yellow pages to find torque wrench calibrators?

In a very quick tour of Torque Wrench Calibrators on Google, a lot
showed up. What is a Torque pack? While I didn't stay long, none seemed
to have welcome arms for Joe Blow with a somewhat inexpensive torque
wrench where he can walk in and say, "Calibrate it." And I, for one
don't need to have a tag placed on my torque wrench certifying it has
been calibrated.
Also, I've maybe pulled out two stud's threads in aluminum twice in
umpteen years.
