[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V10 #410
I figured this was a joke, and that it referred to V6 engines, but
I've had this same thought before in a non-joking context. It may
seem goofy at first, but why not have two .75" belts instead of one
1.5" belt? Volvo and Saab never hesitated to use redundant v-belts
on alternators and water pumps, even though those failures won't
damage anything. I've gotten the impression that most V6 timing belt
failures were in fact tensioner failures, but I'd be a lot more
comfortable using a Zat tensioner for example, if there were two
belts there to give me some warning before I was faced with a
catastrophic failure.

Just to clarify, I meant it as a joke! I was suggesting that it
would provide valuable redundency to protect the thousands of V6
valves that have been ruined on our precious Alfas...
