[alfa] RE: Ignition Lock Problem - 105 GTV - Help Needed
Does this car have a steering-lock ignition switch like a US car, or a dash
switch like earlier GTVs?
I'll assume a locking switch. Take off the two clamshells around the
steering column. You may have to loosen the two 17mm nuts/bolts to allow
the steering column to drop a tiny bit to get the top clamshell off. Find
the 6mm bolt that holds the ignition switch in. It normally is a theft-proof
roundhead bolt, so you may have to remove it by tapping CCW with a small
chisel. They're not hard to get out, if you can get access. And it may
have been changed at some point to a hex head bolt. Once the bolt's out,
mark and remove the wires (disconnect the battery first), and the whole
assembly ought to come out as a unit. Then sort it out on the bench, or get
a new one. The electrical switch on the back is a separate unit from the
locking switch part, and is normally held in by a circlip.

Subject: Ignition Lock Problem - 105 GTV - Help Needed
Hi folks,
Went out to my 72 GTV today to make a run to the grocery, and tried to put
the key in, and it all-of-a-sudden won't go in! It looks a bit like I was
somehow able to get the key out with the ignition lock in a position other
than the final resting position earlier [this morning]. Though I don't
remember any undue resistance or anything strange when I took the key out
before. I checked my spare set and had the same problem, so I'm pretty sure
it's not the key. Can anyone offer any help? How can I get the key back
in? Can I release the ignition lock without having to break it, or get a
locksmith into it?
