Digesti,

I can only second Michael's opinion of the new "stylish" designs. Before Bob Lutz left Daimler Chrysler, he was quoted as saying some new cars styling looked like they "had been frightened by an angry kitchen appliance". Combine this with the 1930's Diesel locomotive styling theme, and the result is not good. And... it's gonna get worse; I just read of a pending EU pedestrian safety requirement for a 4 inch space between outside front body work and any hard internal components. Well, the radiators, braces, brackets etc. aren't gonna move so the bodywork will be raised and extended further outward for compliance. The article surmises the European cars that comply with this will influence U.S. stying toward the "blunt theme".

(snip) "... I can safely opine that BMW does not have a monopoly on ugly design briefs....(as an aside has anyone seen what appallingly ugly cars the Germans are trying to pass off as stylish these days? I mean the Bangle Beemers are breathtakingly ugly, even a Pontiac Aztec has some intellectual honesty about it by comparison, but the newest Mercedes coupe/sedan and the newer Audis are just butt ugly and make even Bangle designs look halfway reasonable).
