[alfa] Alfa Style and Fashion
Regarding the Milano, it is interesting to note that I occasionally (as
recently as last week) get people who mistake my Verde for a "new" car - or
a least just a few years old. While this doesn't automatically qualify it as
a classic, at least it proves it was ahead of its time.
Looking at the car objectively, the entire shape has a very rakish quality
that looks very modern. The car's stock ride height masks this somewhat with
ungainly wheel well gaps, and simply lowering the car brings it out to great
effect, and also makes the rear sheet metal upturn look like more integrated
and purposeful. Other styles of alloy wheels than stock (I prefer 5 or 6
spoke wheels) also seem to visually update the car very well. The bumpers,
of course, sort of give away the age of the car, but the general shape has
aged well.
One current production car, the Lexus IS300, very much mimics the Milano in
general shape and and proportions, as well as powertrain (3 liter 6
cylinder, RWD) - and has an upturned rear end. Needless to say, to my eyes
it is very handsome for a new vehicle.
