sounds like your lock-up servo...its computer related...and can be repaired

Get the ZF factory rebuilt 4HP22EH with all the updates.......
End of problems. 1985 ZF 4HP22EH Automatics in that model had many
engineering
revisions.
The manual trans refit requires a new driveshaft,flywheel and clutch .....
Too much work and $$$$ or CH Fr.
