re: rough running under load, was E28 problems:
Common fuel injection problem which I experienced on a several E30
and big 6's over time is a weak ground developing.
Check the connections for the Brown (ground) wires from the harness to
the fuel rail or intake manifold. Remove the wires, then using a file
clean both the bolt eyelets and the surfaces they contact on the engine.
While you're at it, also check the ground from the battery to the
engine.
These are 'back to basics' items, but are commonly overlooked in favor
of the 'grand diagnostic' approach that its easy for many of us [me too
for sure] to get trapped into.
Verifying that you have a good ground may not fix anything, but
will eliminate the chance that a weak ground is causing a weak spark. A
weak spark will fire ok with less fuel and swirl in the chamber such as
at idle.
Good Luck,
'jk
