RE: Speedometer "Bounce"

I had this same speedo problem in my '75 Blazer after extending 
the length of the cable to reach the transfer case.  (My Blazer has 
a TH400 swapped in place of the stock TH350.  This change 
relocated the transfer case back about six inches)  I discovered 
that the end of the cable was putting pressure on the inside of the 
speedo.  The end of the cable is not supposed to bottom out in the 
sleeve in the speedo.  If it does, it causes a buildup of tension that 
releases suddenly causing the needle to bounce and make noise.  
I just rerouted the cable so it was not pushing into the speedo and 
put some grease on the end when I put it back together.  No more 
noise or erratic behavior from the needle and the speedo is more 
accurate.  The funny thing is that the odometer always worked 
flawlessly during this whole ordeal (several months) until I had time 
to tear the dash apart and find the problem.

	I installed a new speedo cable last night and last night it
worked great.
	Today, however it bounced so wildly at speeds under 30 that I
couldn't tell
	what speed I was travelling.  The bounce is accompanied by a
"sching, sching"
	sound that resembles coins in your pocket.  I was careful not to
kink the
	cable and it is routed the same as the old one was.  There is a
4" diameter
	bend just before the cable passes through the firewall to the
cab.  I cleaned
	the old, gunky receptacles and carefully lubed the cable in
accordance to the
	directions.  Suggestions?
