RE: California smog check exemption of pre-'73 vehicles
What website? I am preparing my '72 Scout II for the smog
free registration starting in 1998 and I need to check on some
information. My registration is not a renewal. The Scout has
not been registered for over six years, but was a California
registered 49 state truck. I know its record is clean but I
expect I will have to smog it because of the Transfer of
Title. Anyone know for sure?

Subject: California smog check exemption of pre-'73 vehicles
Hi all,
Guess I get the prize for gun-jumping. My '72 Scout II is due
for
registration in February. After reading the discussion about
exempting pre-'73 vehicles from Califonria's Smog Check program
and checking both the forms and the smogcheck website
I blithely mailed in my renewal about December first. DMV
responded
with a demand for a smog certificate.
A _very_ close reading of the website, followed by a call to
DMV,
revealed that I should have waited till January 2, then sent in
the renewal.
At this point I have a Notice of Incomplete Renewal, does
anybody
know of a way out? I asked if I could back out the renewal
request
and was told, in a weasely way, no.
Thanks for reading!
