Brake Light Switch for the new daddy

That's the way it used to be, Jeffrey.
The fluid from the pressure in the master cylinder closes the circuit in
the switch. You can test that switch by putting a continuity tester across
it's terminals and having someone push on the brake pedal. If pressure
completes the circuit, the switch is OK. Another test is to jump between
the two wires that attach to the switch and see if the brake lights go on.

Nah, not to the regulator.

so checked

I can't remember if the 57's had separate blinker  and brake bulbs. If they
use the same bulb, your problem is the switch at the master cylinder. If
they use separate bulbs, you can't conclude anything about the switch and
need to test it.
