Re: Lift and V8 266

Thanks again for info on lifting. I've been looking back through my old
Fourwheeler magazines for an article I remember discussing lifting a scout
in addition to other unworthy vehicles. I have gotten some other info on
the suject though which leads me to another question,

What about shackles? I know Confer makes some heavy duties as well
as others. I'm considering getting rid of that "stabilizer" (the piece of
spring steel that goes between the two front shackles) and going with a
shock type in the interest of a little more articulation. Comments?

If I remove this will I be stuck constantly wagging the wheel back
in forth in order to drive straight on the road? (actually, I already have
to do this with that piece bolted all-be-it with hardly any spring
bushings left:)

Re: V8 266
I used to have an 800 with this engine and I really liked it! With
an MSD ignition and a K&N air filter plus some other little things I had
plenty of power and also 13-15 mpg! (I even calculated 16mpg once when I
drove from Tucson to Benson Az. with a tailwind) Unfortunately, with 4.27
axle ratios and 235/75 r15 tires I could only go around 55-60 mph on the
highway. When the speedlimit here changed to 75 people would fly by me
and it sure felt like I was doing something like 35mph. Anyway, I wish
parts were still available (gaskets are the same as the 304 and easy to
get) for this little V8, it sure was a smooth engine. This of course my
own humble oppinion :)

Cheers
