I realize we're getting into semantics here, but just for clarity's
sake, vacuum advance never acts to retard timing from the baseline
timing.  It only advances timing to a greater or lesser degree in
proportion to manifold vacuum.

I assumed timing is set correctly, but I realize that may not be a safe
assumption.  Mark, if you're still having trouble, maybe you want to
post in a little more detail so we can figure something out.
