We used to do that at my folks' place to keep the dog from peeing on the
wheels. Worked great for several weeks or so each time he got hit, but
the dog didn't appreciate it very much. :) Eventually he learned to hit
just the tire.
I've thought of doing it as a theft deterrent also; almost did several
months ago when we had a rash of car & house breakins in the 'hood. But
I decided a sound-activated alarm system would be better, because it
would let me catch them instead of just scaring them off. I got some
real cheap little transmitters that broadcast an alarm to the receiver
when they pick up a noise, but the thief's roommate turned him in before
I had a chance to try them out. Pity.. my neighbor and I were going to
set up a sting with a nice boombox or something on the seat.
If anyone wants a set of the sound-activated doohickeys, I have an
extra; I think I'll keep 2 sets. It cost me around $8 or $9. I can
tell you where to get them, too, if they still have them.

So much the better. :)
