Hmmmmm. Let's see--345 ci times 3000 rpm/2 /1728 cu ft/cu in =299 cfm.
Big truck air compressors are commonly about 12 cfm. I'm sure the A/C
compressor doesn't pump more than this. Do you think the air cleaner
will notice a measley 12 cfm?
But let's put a real air compressor in a Scout. Pull the exhaust valve
push rods from one bank, replace the 4 spark plugs with check valves and
plumb them all together and we've got 150 cfm at 3000 rpm (or even 299
cfm if we figure out how to install a second check valve so we can draw
in air during the "power" stroke) which should fill--or more likely
explode, especially if we continue to draw fuel mixture from the carb--a
33x12.50-15 in about 2 seconds or less. True, you'll have only a 4-172
(or less because of the drag of the other 4 cylinders) to drive, but who
cares when we can pump air like that. Think what your super soaker would
do, Tom.
