it is NOT the same.

I am still debating what kind of engine I want to put back in the 1210. I
wanted to put a 7.3 diesel in it and still may do that eventually but I'm
still fishing for input and ideas at this point.

The MV 404/446 is VERY similar in configuration to the 6.9/7.3 diesels.

I don't know the characteristics of this family of engine if they are any
heavier built inside than the earlier engines or what.

in some ways, yes. They do not, however, have a deep skirted block. Block
stops at the crank CL.

I know there are a few performance parts available for the early engines
but surely not for the 446. Perhaps a custom grind cam might be a
possibility. Does anyone have any ideas?

i'm sure that Charlie at Camcraft could fix you up with a cam---

yep, just the two sizes. only differences from 404 to 446 are crank and pistons.

The 500+ CI engine used in some R series tractor trucks looks totally
different than this 446.

Yep, the LV8's are WAY different and much bigger. came 401/462/478/549, and
then 537/605.
