fuel line does decompose from exposure to gasoline...hence the frequent
warnings in the classic auto communities to REPLACE YOUR FUEL LINES. :)
Depending on the specific line and the content of the gas, the lines may
get soft and mushy, or they may get "dry" and hard, then crack.
The caps on brake cylinders are just dust caps, and not supposed to see
very much brake fluid. The seats in the wheel and master cyls are also
rubber, but usually a formulation of rubber that is more resistant to
brake fluid. Brake lines also use rubber...and also eventually turn gooey
on the inside, usually leading to stuck-on brakes...these too should be
replaced more often then they generally are.
