Re: [alfa] Spider misc. questions
Hi Bob:
Try soaking the clutch slave bleeder with PB Blaster (or similar) and use a
box wrench to break it loose, or maybe a deep socket. It may still snap
off, but that's about all you can try. I always use a few turns of Teflon
plumber's tape on all bleeders, and it's a great way to prevent them from
rusting in place.
For leather treatment, contact AlfaBill and ask him about Leatherique
products. The results on my '87 Spider seats were amazing. I'm about
ready to park my '87 Spider for the Summer (ever drive a triple-black
Spider in Florida, in Summer?), and I'll treat the seats again over the
break. Each time I use it the seats get softer.
Check the hose between the airflow meter and the throttle body. You may
have a loose clamp, or more likely, a cracked hose, especially the big
expensive one. That's the most likely cause of your engine stumbling.

Subject: [alfa] Spider misc. questions
As the spider comes out of its hibernation and hits the road, I have found
a couple of things I need to sort out.
1- What is the best way to bleed the clutch slave cylinder? The fluid is a
nasty color and must be changed. I think the seals of the master and slave
have slowly been degraded by the fluid as it is darker than clean fluid. I
have tried to get wrenches on the bleeder, but it is darn tight and I
don't want to strip anything.
2- The leather seats have a brown tarnished look on the "shoulders" next
to the head rests. Any ideas on how to restore/clean? Has this been
caused by UV rays?
3- I think I have a loose wire in the engine bay. From a slow start, if
the engine twists or bucks just a little, it feels as the engine looses
all power. The solution is to dump the clutch, higher rpm's, then try
again. After you get moving, the engine smooths out. Again, it feels
like a wire problem or ground. Where do I look first other than all wire
connections?
Thanks for any help.
