Subject: [alfa] RE: Ford Anglia
Anglia was the first car I ever owned (at age 16), and the only car I've
owned that wasn't Italian.
---------------------------
An Anglia was the first car I was in. It was the first car my father owned
and was the first, and possibly the only car my uncle owned. My uncle bought
it upon leaving the USMC in 1947. New cars were hard to come by and
according to my late father the U.K. was exporting a large portion of its
early post war production. My uncle bought it and decided he didn't want to
learn to drive so he gave it to Dad. It was small but served us well until
guy ran a red light and my father t-boned him. I was riding in the back seat
when the passenger front door opened I somehow managed to be thrown from the
vehicle landing on the pavement in a triangle formed by Anglia, the car we
hit
and the car behind us who pulled to the right to avoid rear ending us. My
dad
promptly bought a 1950 Chrysler figuring a tank would be safer. Maybe that
experience subconsciously made me always dislike English cars.
